SpaceX, Elon Musk Rocket CompanyThe new year begins by sending a communications satellite into space for the Turkish nation.
Turksat 5A is the first pair of next-generation broadcast birds that SpaceX will boost into orbit from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida as soon as Thursday night.
SpaceX has not officially confirmed the mission, but the airspace has been closed and Weather Bulletins Indicate it’s on schedule with a backup run window after about 24 hours.
The satellite is expected to board the first stage of the Falcon 9 booster, which will make its fourth flight, followed shortly afterwards by its fourth landing, this time aboard the Just Read The Instructions parked in the Atlantic.
This will be a relatively routine mission for SpaceX, but a night launch from Space Coast is always a great sight.
The Falcon 9 is currently set to launch at some point during a four-hour window starting at 5:28 PM PDT (8:28 PM local time). The weather forecast is 60% favorable Thursday night and 80% the following evening.
