A woman was identified as being shot dead after pro-Trump protesters accused the US Capitol Building on Wednesday of being an Air Force veteran, Ashley Babbitt, in San Diego.

Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Conte confirmed late Wednesday that Papeete was shot by a Capitol police officer. An internal investigation is now underway.

FOX 5’s Lindsay Watts spoke with Babbit’s mother-in-law Wednesday evening.

“I really don’t know why she decided to do this,” said Babbitt’s mother-in-law to Watts.

Babbitt and her husband own a company in San Diego. Her husband did not come to the capital, according to Watts.
